George Rivas, an inmate who organized Texas’ biggest prison break, has been executed for gunning down a suburban Dallas police officer 11 years ago. He was pronounced dead at 6:22 p.m. CST, ten minutes after the execution began.
For his last meal, Rivas was offered the same meal as the rest of the prisoners: barbecue chicken, beans, potato salad, and yellow cake with chocolate icing. Texas no longer grants last meal requests to death row inmates.
George Rivas’ wife, whom he married in prison, his spiritual adviser, a friend and his attorney were on the list to be there when he died shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday.
